about

Here we have a very early iteration of my attempt at "Bohemian Rhapsody", which was originally recorded by Queen.

I'm playing all of the instruments (acoustic guitars, electric guitars, **bass guitar, drums, a real baby grand piano, and a softsynth for the "strings"). I'm also singing all vocals and doing all of the engineering (recording, mixing, and mastering). There is no pitch-correction like Autotune or Melodyne on any of the vocals.

**The bass guitar track is actually my acoustic/electric guitar that was tuned down to Drop A and then pitch-shifted down an octave. I don't own a bass guitar anymore because I recently had to sell it due to hard times (it was a 5-string MTD Kingston Heir - fucking incredible bass). I'm very surprised that I able to get the down-tuned and pitch shifted acoustic to even remotely sound like a bass (that needed to be pitch-corrected in graphic mode). If I end up going forward with this song, I'll try and borrow a bass from someone and lay the track down.

And so with that said, I've been taking this cover song very slowly - just to see how far I can get with it while still sounding decent (if it's even listenable).

I still need to replace all of the vocals from the intro until right before the first verse. I think they're annoying as hell (I sang them too hard and with too much gruff in my voice - they should have been sung in a much softer tone).

I mean, I'm aware that my voice can be more than grating at times (most of the time??). But I'm sure that I can make those intro vocals sound a lot better. Plus I need to redo that guitar solo.

I stopped working on the song right when the operatic section is supposed to come in. Well, I did skip ahead and do that heavier part (right after the opera) - but stopped again right before the outro (the "nothing even matters" part). Whatever I did of that was cut from this demo-thing, however.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy!

lyrics

*I kind of modified the lyrics ever so slightly. I'm sorry - please don't hurt me!*

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?
Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality
Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see

I'm just a poor boy - I don't need your sympathy
Because I'm easy come, easy go, little high, little low
Any way the wind blows doesn't really matter to me, to me

Mama, I just killed a man
I put a gun up to his head - pulled the trigger, now he's dead
Mama, life had just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away

Mama, ooh, didn't mean to make you cry
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters

It's too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time
Goodbye, everybody, I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind to face the truth

Mama, no (any way the wind blows)
I don't wanna die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all
